Bank Jakarta Supports Market Digitalization in Jakarta

JAKARTA — Bank Jakarta expressed its commitment to fully support the implementation of the Market Digitalization Competition, starting with the launching of the Market Digitalization Competition and the signing of a joint commitment to the program to increase market digitalization in Jakarta which was signed by the Main Director of Bank Jakarta, Agus H. Widodo together with the Main Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya, Agus Himawan and other banking institutions witnessed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung and the Regional Secretary of DKI Jakarta Marullah Mattali in Jakarta (22/7/2025).

The Market Digitalization Competition was initiated by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) through collaboration between the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), Bank Indonesia, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and Perumda Pasar Jaya. This activity aims to encourage the acceleration of digital transformation, especially in the payment system in markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya.

Governor Pramono assessed that, through the 2025 Market Digitalization Competition, Pramono is carrying out four big targets. The targets are increasing trader welfare, transaction efficiency, optimizing local taxes, and eradicating market thuggery.

"I proposed this competition. The aim is clear, so that traders become familiar with digital systems such as QRIS and EDC," said Pramono at Mayestik Market, South Jakarta, Tuesday (22/7/2025).

According to him, digitalization is not only about transaction speed, but also about security and order. "If there is no cash circulating, there is no room for pickpocketing and extortion," he said.

Furthermore, Pramono called market digitalization a strategic step to strengthen the people's economy. "This is not a modernization style, but a long-term effort to build economic foundations from the bottom," he said.

Pramono said that the Jakarta Provincial Government is collaborating with Bank Indonesia (BI), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and Perumda Pasar Jaya as main partners.

In fact, the assessment of the competition is completely handed over to BI and OJK to ensure transparency. "The provincial government does not interfere with judging. We want this competition to be credible and objective," stressed Pramono.

Apart from that, currently, Pramono said, 20 markets have participated in this program, and it is targeted to reach all 133 markets in Jakarta.

"Digital transformation is no longer an option, but a necessity. The market must be the epicenter of the people's economy that is clean, orderly and competitive," he said.

President Director of Bank Jakarta, Agus H Widodo, said that digitalization of the traditional market sector is an important part of modern and inclusive urban economic development.

"Bank Jakarta sees market digitalization as momentum to provide a more efficient, transparent and affordable transaction ecosystem. We fully support this program as a form of real contribution to Jakarta's local economic growth," said Agus.

As a participant in the digitalization aspect of banking, Bank Jakarta is tasked with assisting four markets that have been determined based on market class mapping and number of business premises (TU), namely Mayestik Market (Class A) – 1,516 TU; Koja Baru Market (Class B) – 1,056 TU; Cengkareng Market (Class B) – 1,065 TU; and Pondok Bambu Market (Class C) – 375 TU.

The total number of business premises that Bank Jakarta will serve in this program reaches 4,012 TU.

In the banking aspect, Bank Jakarta will be assessed in three main categories, namely Best and Most Active Literacy (assessment period 21 July – 9 August 2025); Most Massive Financial Access (assessment period January – 9 August 2025); and Best Financial Digitalization.

"Market transformation is not only the government's agenda, but also a joint commitment of all economic actors. Bank Jakarta is ready to be an important part of this change," said Agus H. Widodo.

Likewise, the Main Director of Pasar Jaya, Agus Himawan, said that aspects of cleanliness and waste management were also the main assessments. "Modern markets are not only cashless, but also clean and orderly," he said.

The appointment of BI and OJK as competition judges is also seen as a new direction for technology-based local economic development. "Market digitalization is a real game changer. It's not just innovation, but a systemic strategy to strengthen financial literacy and digital inclusion," he concluded.

Meanwhile, Bank Jakarta Corporate Secretary, Arie Rinaldi, added that the company has prepared concrete steps to support this program, starting from direct education to traders, QRIS activation, opening digital accounts, to integrating banking services with the market ecosystem.

"We are optimistic that we can show the best performance in terms of digital financial literacy and adoption." said Arie.
