Encouraging Non-cash Transactions in Traditional Markets, Bank Jakarta Wins 3 Market Digitalization Awards

JAKARTA - Encouraging the implementation of non-cash transactions in a number of traditional markets in Jakarta, Bank Jakarta won the Banking Partner and Financial Literacy Bank Partner awards at the Market Digitalization Competition which was participated in by BCA, Bank Mandiri, BRI and BNI.

The Market Digitalization Competition was carried out collaboratively between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the Regional Public Company (Perumda) Pasar Jaya, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Bank Indonesia (BI) with the aim of encouraging traditional markets to switch to digital payment systems in order to create faster, safer and more transparent transactions.

For information, of the 153 markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya, 20 traditional markets are used as pilot locations. These markets were chosen randomly by considering the classification (classes A, B, and C) and the number of active business premises. They compete in several categories, namely Most Active Literacy Program, Best Financial Digitalization, and Most Massive Financial Access.

Bank Jakarta received three award categories at once, including Best Banking Partner in Market B (Koja Market) and Market A (Mayestik Market) Category, as well as Second Best Financial Literacy Bank Partner.

The award was handed over directly by the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung to the President Director of Bank Jakarta, Agus H. Widodo, witnessed by the Deputy Chief Representative of Bank Indonesia for Jakarta Province, Yosamartha; Head of the Jabodebek Financial Services Authority, Edwin Nurhadi at the Main Hall of Tanah Abang Market Block B, Central Jakarta, Thursday (21/8/2025).

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, in his speech after giving the award, said, "Because I think simply like this, digitalization cannot be avoided. However, if the literacy process is not contested, the banks are not pitted against each other, the market is not observed, there will definitely not be a jump, a surge. So when we opened the Market Digitalization Competition, I did not imagine that the increase could be so significant. The use of QRIS, including transactions, shows what we are doing together, showing extraordinary progress."

He added, "Jakarta contributed 16.61% to national GDP with growth of 5.18%, higher than the national average of 5.12%. This means that Jakarta is growing better. One of the driving factors is digitalization. With digitalization, pickpockets are reduced, primacy is reduced, and the Tanah Abang market as the ASEAN market center can return to life. Therefore, I appreciate banking, BI, OJK, and Pasar Jaya for collaborating. The results are extraordinary, the use of QRIS in 20 markets has increased almost 47%, merchant NPWP also rose significantly, and e-commerce transactions jumped more than 40%.”

On the same occasion, the President Director of Bank Jakarta, Agus H. Widodo expressed his gratitude for the award given to Bank Jakarta. He also said that Bank Jakarta made this Market Digitalization Competition an event to encourage financial literacy and inclusion.

"We view the digitalization of traditional markets as part of the transformation of Jakarta's financial ecosystem. This effort not only provides ease of transactions through QRIS and EDC, but also opens wider access for MSME players to enter the formal financial system. Bank Jakarta is committed to making digitalization the foundation for sustainable community economic empowerment," said Agus.

The Head of Mayestik Market, Dewi Ratna Furi, was also grateful that Mayestik Market received the "Best Type A Digital Market" category award at the Market Digitalization Competition and welcomed the various financial literacy efforts carried out by the banking industry, especially Bank Jakarta which was appointed as the main partner for Mayestik Market in carrying out digitalization. "The collaboration between Pasar Mayestik and Bank Jakarta in the Market Digitalization Competition is a very positive and strategic step. This is not just a trend, but a necessity to ensure traditional markets remain relevant and competitive in the digital economic era," said Dewi.

Bank Jakarta Corporate Secretary, Arie Rinaldi, said that Bank Jakarta will continue to increase collaboration with Pasar Jaya and encourage market digitalization in the future. He even said that this event was a future momentum for Bank Jakarta to encourage the digitalization of markets throughout Jakarta. "We believe that market digitalization will have a positive impact on empowering MSMEs and will encourage regional economic growth," he concluded.
