Helped by Credit from Bank DKI, This is the Story of RM Padang Owner Trio Minang Survive in the Midst of the Pandemic

Published: 24 June 2021

Even though it is one of the sectors that is still surviving, the culinary business has not escaped the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The decline in demand has caused turnover to fall, and culinary businesses are also vulnerable to 'going out of business' due to intense competition. The Covid-19 pandemic also hampered his plans to develop his restaurant business. This is what Andika, the owner of the Padang Trio Minang Restaurant (RM) located in Cikeas, West Java, is well aware of when telling his story (18/06).

This 37 year old man, who started a clothing business as his first business, said that even though Padang cuisine is the people's favorite culinary delight, that doesn't mean there are no challenges in running his business. The emergence of similar Padang cuisine restaurants and other restaurants with different menus has become a challenger for RM Padang Trio Minang to survive. Not to mention a number of contemporary cafes that are starting to capture the youth market with interesting menu variants.

He started the RM Padang Trio Minang business in 2005 with capital of IDR 25 million after deciding to stop being in the clothing business. Capital difficulties and intense competition in the clothing business were the reasons why Andika finally decided to 'swerve' to open a Padang culinary business. Slowly his business grew and began to gain regular customers as its strength. "There will definitely be ups and downs in building a business, but thankfully we can still survive over time. The most important thing is for us as restaurant owners to maintain the quality of taste, and serve a different menu from other Padang restaurants," said Andika.

RM Padang Trio Minang is now adapting an online ordering system through collaboration with an online motorcycle taxi application. This was done in an effort to reach buyers whose mobility is limited due to policies during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 pandemic also hampered his plans to develop his restaurant business. Nevertheless, Andika's plans to invest in locations and buildings for business development will continue. He finally looked for information about banks that provided financing for this plan, but a number of banks he met provided conditions that made things difficult for him.

Choose Bank DKI

Around September 2020, Andika decided to choose Bank DKI Syariah to apply for financing. Apart from having easier requirements, Bank DKI Syariah's services are considered satisfactory. "Previously, I received information from Bank DKI employees regarding the National Economic Recovery (PEN) program. After I visited it, it turned out that the interest rate was also low, and the process turned out to be faster. Finally I decided to apply for financing at Bank DKI Syariah."

As of May 2021, Bank DKI is recorded as having distributed PEN funds amounting to IDR 3.36 trillion. The PEN funds were used by Bank DKI to distribute credit to the productive sector so that it could encourage economic growth, especially to the micro, retail and corporate segments, including to the wholesale and retail trade sectors amounting to IDR 904.1 billion or reaching 26.91% of the total distribution of PEN funds.

Distributions in this sector are mainly distributed to MSME debtors, including existing micro debtors of Bank DKI, debtors assisted by JakPreneur, MSMEs in Perumda Pasar Jaya markets, as well as Cooperatives and Rural Credit Banks. PEN credit distribution was also distributed to the construction sector which builds public facilities and infrastructure in the DKI Jakarta area amounting to IDR 450.5 billion or reaching 13.41% of the total PEN funds that have been distributed by Bank DKI.

Bank DKI also continues to strive to increase its credit portfolio, one of which is by utilizing PEN funds provided by the government. Bank DKI hopes that these PEN funds can be utilized as well as possible by business actors so that the goal of national economic recovery, especially in the DKI Jakarta area, can be realized immediately.
