Minister of the Environment Encourages Cashless Waste Bank Transactions with "JakOne Abank" Bank DKI as an Example for BPD-SI

Jakarta – Minister of the Environment and Head of the Indonesian Environmental Control Agency, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, appreciated the implementation of the JakOne Abank application by Bank DKI at the Kumala Main Waste Bank (BSI), North Jakarta. This was expressed during his visit to BSI Kumala, which is located on Jalan Budi Jaya, Sungai Bambu, Tanjung Priok, Sunday (22/12/2024).

Hanif encourages this initiative to be replicated by Regional Development Banks throughout Indonesia (BPD SI) to support more modern and efficient waste management. "If the waste problem in Jakarta is resolved, the waste problem in Indonesia will be resolved. We will use this as a scenario to be replicated in other BPDs. The main obstacles are usually funding and transactions. If this system can be implemented throughout Indonesia, we can overcome various problems," said Hanif.

In line with this, Bank DKI President Director Agus H. Widodo said that Bank DKI is always committed to supporting various government programs in encouraging the implementation of non-cash transactions, including collaboration with various parties in the environmental sector through digitalization. "With the superior features that JakOne Abank has, we want to provide easy access to transactions for the public while at the same time encouraging awareness of the importance of sustainable waste management," said Agus.

The Kumala Main Waste Bank has been a pioneer in community-based waste management since 2016. Chairman of the Kumala Main Waste Bank, Budi Hermawan, explained that this waste bank has succeeded in collecting up to 13 tons of inorganic waste and 1.5 tons of organic waste every month. Through collaboration with Bank DKI, the JakOne Abank application facilitates cashless transactions, records waste distribution, and provides convenience in payments to customers. For your information, the JakOne Abank partnership service allows partners to get added value from various digital banking services such as cash deposits, payments to various billers and financial management in a professional, real time and safe manner.

"With JakOne Abank, our transactions become easier and more transparent. Customers from various Waste Bank Units can receive payments directly through the application, so they no longer depend on cash transactions," said Budi. Hanif emphasized the importance of local government support to expand this initiative. He appreciated the steps taken by the DKI Provincial Government and Bank DKI in providing digital solutions that answer waste management needs.

"We are optimistic that this system can strengthen waste bank management throughout Indonesia," he added.

The Kumala Main Waste Bank, which is also known for empowering former street children as managers, has become a national model. This concept of synergy between waste management and banking has attracted the attention of various regions, including East Java, Bali and Sulawesi, who made study visits to the Kumala Main Waste Bank.

With the main target of cashless-based waste management by 2025, it is hoped that this initiative can become a successful model for other regions in overcoming environmental problems while increasing community economic empowerment.

Bank DKI Corporate Secretary, Arie Rinaldi, on a separate occasion said that the use of JakOne Abank is expected to provide convenience in terms of transactions for Kumala Main Waste Bank customers. "Bank DKI also supports and appreciates the development of the Kumala Main Waste Bank as part of efforts to develop a social economy based on a sustainable environment," concluded Arie.
